This article discusses how to access and interpret viewer engagement statistics, including viewer retention metrics, through the Analytics panel on the video settings page
You can access viewer engagement stats when the Analytics drawer is open on the video settings page. Along the timeline of your video, you can view viewer retention statistics in a line graph to help you determine which parts of the video are the most engaging.
⚠️ Note: Viewer retention statistics were relocated from the old Classic Analytics Report and the old Video Settings page to the Analytics panel on the video page.
The following metrics are available for each timestamp:
- Views: the number of times the video was played
- % Watched: the number of viewers who watched a particular moment divided by the total viewers of the video
The graph and statistics show data from the past 30 days, consistent with the other information on the Analytics panel.
Engagement analytics across multiple videos
In addition to viewing retention data for individual videos, you can view aggregated engagement data across multiple videos in the Analytics module.
To access engagement analytics:
- Go to Analytics from the main navigation.
- Select the Engagement tab.
- Use the filters to select a date range and the videos you want to analyse.
The Engagement tab shows:
- Retention graph — A line graph showing the percentage of views remaining at each point in the video (from 0% to 100%). When multiple videos are selected, each video is normalised into 100 percentage segments so that videos of different lengths can be compared directly.
- Engagement table — A table with the following columns for each video (and in aggregate):
| Column | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Views | The number of sessions in which a video starts playing |
| Average % watched | Total watch time divided by the video's length |
| Average completion rate | The proportion of views in which the video was watched to the end (within 2 seconds of completion) |
| Views at 1% | How many views were recorded at the 1% point of the video |
| Views at 25% | How many views were recorded at the 25% point |
| Views at 50% | How many views were recorded at the 50% point |
| Views at 75% | How many views were recorded at the 75% point |
| Views at 100% | How many views were recorded at the 100% (end) point |
- Engagement metrics count views, not unique viewers. If a viewer watches the same segment more than once, each watch counts separately.
- Engagement analytics are not available via the Vimeo API.
- You can export the engagement table as a CSV file. To export, select Export at the top right of the Engagement tab. The CSV will include all rows and columns currently visible in the table.
-
Engagement analytics are available to any user or Enterprise organisation with access to the Analytics section of Vimeo.
