History of solar coronal expansion studies
Abstract
A development history is presented for the observational and theoretical investigation of the solar corona, which can be traced back to Cassini (1672) and received major impetus in the wake of observational evidence for the continuous presence of an interplanetary gas in the 1950s. Attention is here given to the work of Parker (1958), Chamberlain (1960), and Weber and Davis (1967).
